Sharp crested weirs
The sharp-crested weirs (i.e. rectangular, V-notch, Cipoletti, circular and parabolic weirs) are commonly used because of their relative simple design and a high flow measurement accuracy. Less advantageous can be a high energy loss and construction requirements. All sharp-crested weirs are made of polypropylene with a stainless steel crest.
Broad-Crested Weirs
They are made of polypropylene and filled with concrete and can stand up well under field conditions. The broad-crested weir is a critical-depth meter.
Broad-Crested Weirs with a Short Length
They are made of polypropylene and filled with concrete. Due to a shorter weir length, a lower accuracy may
be achieved (in comparison with above mentioned sharp-crested weirs).
It is necessary to require a certification on a primary calibration. Selection of a type of weir and its
size is dependent on all aspects (both hydraulic and site ones) as well as on design engineers expertise.
